SERVER POSITION
Little Pep is looking for a wine-focused server to join our small team in downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Who We're Looking For:
The right person for this role will have a strong wine background with deep knowledge of regions, varietals, producers, and pairings — and the ability to confidently guide guests of all wine experience levels. Your knowledge will also help guests feel comfortable with often unfamiliar wine styles and dishes that might be new to them.
This role is not that of a bartender; our beverages have already been crafted for us by talented producers, and it’s our job to confidently guide guests to the wine they want to drink. Yes, you’ll be behind the bar, but you’re also helping guests select wine for a meal at home, describing flavor profiles & explaining differences in wine styles, pouring wine at tables, and offering thoughtful suggestions on what food to order and what wine to drink.
In addition to wine experience, our ideal candidate has the ability to work well as part of a team, a positive attitude, a willingness to take direction & feedback, the ability to learn quickly & adapt to a menu that changes daily, and a genuine love of all things food, wine, and hospitality.
Must have:
• A strong working knowledge of wine
• Availability to work 3-4 shifts per week
• Capability to make thoughtful wine & food recommendations and confidently guide guests through our menu
• Availability to work during the holiday season (closed Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day)
• Ability to carry 40 lbs.
• Ability to stand for a minimum of 7 hours
Nice to have:
• Service industry experience
• Previous wine bar/wine shop experience
• Familiarity with Toast POS
Job Description:
This is a part-time position requiring 3-4 shifts per week which equates to about 20-30 hours. This job will include bar & table service, bussing tables, assisting customers in the retail area, helping with dish, assisting with expo & running food, and cleaning responsibilities.
• Shifts: 4:30pm to close Wednesday & Thursday, 2:30-8pm/5:30 to close Friday & Saturday, & 12:30pm to close on Sunday
• Pay: $8.50/hour + tips (typically ranges from $35-$55/hour). Tips are pooled and split evenly amongst servers based on hours worked. We tip out the kitchen 20% and 10% to the server assistant.
• Time Off: We will close down the shop for two weeks twice a year — once in January and another time in June/July. During this time off, employees that work 4+ shifts per week will be paid their hourly wage for their average weekly hours.
• Start Date: The ideal start date is November 1st, but no later than November 12th.
• Moving Stipend: Don't live in Winston-Salem but may be interested in this job? We're willing to help the right candidate relocate by assisting with moving expenses.
